LEONARDO DEINLA RIVERA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CONDUCTS FIRE SAFETY DRILL WITH BFP

LEONARDO DEINLA RIVERA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL — To strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure school safety, Leonardo Deinla Rivera Elementary School conducted a comprehensive Fire Safety Drill and Simulation on its campus.

The event actively engaged teachers, learners, and non-teaching personnel. It focused on teaching real-time emergency response mechanisms.

BFP Expert Guides the Community

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) led the safety initiative. Senior Fire Officer 1 (SFO1) Ulyses B. Diesta served as the primary safety expert and drill evaluator.

SFO1 Diesta began the session with an educational briefing on fire hazards, the chemistry of fire, and the importance of maintaining calm during crises.

Hands-On Simulation and Evacuation

The sounding of the school’s emergency alarm triggered the simulation. Participants executed the standard “Duck, Cover, and Hold” protocol before proceeding with an orderly evacuation.

Key highlights of the drill included:

  • Systematic Evacuation: Teachers guided learners along designated evacuation routes to the open safe zones.
  • Accountability Check: Non-teaching personnel and teachers conducted rapid headcounts to ensure no one was left behind.
  • Fire Extinguisher Training: SFO1 Diesta demonstrated the proper use of fire extinguishers using the P.A.S.S. technique (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep).
  • Practical Application: Selected teachers and non-teaching staff successfully extinguished controlled fires under professional supervision.

Building a Culture of Readiness

The school administration emphasized that regular drills transform theoretical safety knowledge into lifesaving habits. SFO1 Diesta praised the school’s quick response time and organized evacuation plan, while offering recommendations to further improve structural safety and exit speed.

Through this collaborative effort with the BFP, Leonardo Deinla Rivera Elementary School reinforces its commitment to providing a secure, hazard-aware learning environment for all.
